STRUGA POETRY EVENINGS

Struga Poetry Evenings The manifestation Struga Poetry Evenings is being held dedicated to the great educators of the Macedonian revival, collectors of folk songs and founders of the Macedonian modern poetry, the brothers Miladinovci.
Direct reason for organising the "Struga Poetry Evenings" was the reading of poetry by a group of outstanding Macedonian writers on the celebration of jubilee of the edition of the "Zbornikot na brakata Miladinovci" (A collection work of brothers Miladinovci), on 15th of July 1961. Then every year the number of participants was growing constantly. That was the reason why the festival became international in 1965, with the participation of eminent poets from several countries. The following 1966 the festival “Struga Poetry Evenings” became an institution.
This manifestation is being held every year in the second half of August. It is opened with ceremonial opening, lighting the festival fire and reading the song "T’ga za jug"(Longing for the south). Then the poets send their messages to the whole world by reading their songs.
"Poetry meridians", "Night without punctuation" and "Bridges". This festival is a significant tribune from which the poetry word, its human messages and the power to connect and ennoble the people - echoes to the world every year.
Within this manifestation there is an International poetry library with books from all participants so far, as well as an important documentation of the International poetry archives.
The "Struga Poetry evenings" with its highest international poetry homage “the Golden wreath”, as well as with numerous other high prizes and honours, have made the poetry word and the poetry messages become known.
